ABOUT ME

I first came to art proper in the 2nd year of my languages degree at Cambridge, when I took a paper on Italian Renaissance art. I was hooked: I  wrote an art and poetry-based thesis in the 3rd year and sat a range of European art papers in my finals, graduating with a First in 2002.

Next I studied for a Masters (Italian Renaissance) at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, which led to a job at Christie’s, in Old Master Pictures. I liked the pace of the auction world but wanted a more meaningful contact with art. That was provided by Art History Abroad, a company that runs cultural tours in Italy. In the time that I worked for them as a tutor and guide, I got to know Italy well and engaged with the country’s art on a daily basis. In 2007, I established Head for Art to provide my own bespoke cultural tours in Italy and the UK.

A few years down the line, I looked for a less itinerant job and found it teaching art history A Level at Westminster and Latymer Upper schools in London. Since 2002 I have worked as a freelance arts writer for various UK publications.
